House Speaker Christopher Rants, Sen. Co-President Jeff Lamberti, Des Moines Pastor Jeff Bradley and Iowa Family Policy Center President Chuck Hurley will respond to same-sex marriage lawsuit with renewed push for Marriage Amendment.
Des Moines — “This lawsuit is an attempt to circumvent the will of the people. Rather than trusting Iowans to decide this critical social issue, Lambda Legal hopes to force Iowans to accept same-sex marriage through the courts,” said Hurley. ”The people of Iowa should decide this issue, not a handful of unelected judges.
“Iowans are overwhelmingly in support of defending marriage. From the Iowa poll that showed 65% of Iowans opposing same-sex ‘marriages,’ to the almost 15,000 signatures we’ve collected, it’s clear where Iowans stand. Now it’s time to see if our judges and elected representatives will stand firm,” said Hurley.
“Defending Iowa’s Defense of Marriage Act, and pushing for a marriage amendment has nothing to do with disliking homosexual couples. Studies across the spectrum, from liberal to conservative, prove that children do best in a home with a mother AND a father. Same-sex marriages will create homes where children will, by default, be without either a mother or a father. We want what’s best for Iowa’s kids,” said Hurley.
